Hi Reader, Summer breeze makes us feel fine. It's also a great time for some down time...to be with family, in Nature, and with yourself. This has been a working summer for me though. I've been figuring out how to integrate my spiritual work with the (mostly) technical/intellectual roles I used to have. The inner yin/yang struggle is real, y'all. ☯️ But it's a "struggle" that feels true for me. As Lady Gaga sings, I was born this way. I have a soul-deep desire to integrate opposites, inside and out. For the last decade or so, it's had me go deep on topics like (geo)politics, civics, culture, and spirituality. And in this lifetime, I was destined to venture far and wide...as Viktor Frankl put it...in search for meaning. That's why I've now returned to music. It's an art form that's full of meaning...for the musicians who create it, for the artists who perform it, and for the listeners who absorb it. A few days ago. I watched a news segment about an AI-generated song that's really good. When the reporter tested it out on the street, listeners vibed with it. But, when a listener was told it was an AI artist, she felt sad she wouldn't be able to buy tickets to vibe with the artist live. That struck a chord with me (pun intended). No matter how convenient it is to pull up any tune on your digital media player, or to have AI create a song in minutes, there's something magical about hearing music performed live, by a real human. Because music is way more than a bunch of digital bits and bytes. When we experience it together, in real time, we have a good shot at beauty, or grace, or even transcendence. On that note...I'm starting my music livestreams back up again. On Substack. 🎶 Read more about it here, and subscribe to my Substack so you'll know when I'm live. I cannot wait to vibe with you there! Until then... Rock on, Reader ✌️ |
