Hi Reader, β What do Beethoven, Laufey, and LL Cool J have in common? They were all part of an iconic set at this weekend's Coachella music festival. The LA Philharmonic Orchestra, or LAPhil for short, displayed flair and artistry at their Coachella debut. No, they didn't pay me to say any of this. I'm just an excited music fan right now, wowed by how imaginative their music and artistic director Gustavo Dudamel is. (That's him in the picture, wearing a bucket hat that's part of rapper LL Cool J's signature look.) This is my sweet spot, my idea of musical heaven. When composers, arrangers, and artists put their genre boxes aside...and get back to the basics of making good music. When it doesn't matter who wrote what, or how long ago. And when 2 + 2 = exponential amaze-balls. That's how I like to think of music. Every lick, and every lyric, has a seat at the music-making table...if it helps to tell the larger story, or to create the overall vibe. And, from the looks of the live crowd who absorbed this musical experiment, the vibes were immaculate. It's the same vibe I seek to create in my livestreams - a musical gumbo that's rich, flavorful, and memorable. After a few months away - to regroup and reassemble my ingredients - I'm gearing up to go live again in a few weeks. Since you're on my email list, you'll be the first to know all the deets. πΆβ¨ See ya online soon. ποΈπΉπ€ Until then, I'll be soaking up more Coachella goodness. Because, between headliners like Lady Gaga and Benson Boone, and unexpected gems like the LA Phil, it has me busy dreaming up my own solo magical mashups. ππͺ β Rock on, Reader βοΈ β |
