Hi Reader, I used to be an expert on productivity tools. My work life began and, for many years, continued in fast-paced industries. I was in constant sink-or-swim mode, adjusting to new projects, new clients, or new marketplace shifts. So...to stay on top of all the tasks I had to juggle, testing and using the latest productivity tools became a mild obsession. When the work stakes were so high, it was crucial to squeeze every ounce of efficiency out of my day. The adrenaline rush was fun. My mind would gamify it - way before gamification was a thing - by trying to beat the clock, or to beat my coworkers in getting something done. When I started my own business ventures, I maintained that same habit. The more tasks I could pile on my plate each day, or the faster I could complete them...all that added up to what felt like a job well done. What the world doesn't always tell you though...is how crucial it is to put purpose first. Sure, we can easily fill our work days with 24 tasks, and complete them productively. But are all those 24 tasks serving us, or serving the goals that truly matter? And who gets to decide what those tasks are in the first place? You? A loved one? A boss or coworker? Or someone else? The answer will change, depending on the context, or on the season of your life. Ultimately, the more you can sprinkle in a sense of purpose into your day, and into your to-do list...the more peace and contentment you'll have. And when you then apply productivity tools to those purposeful tasks, life starts to feel more truthfully turbocharged than simply stuck in a soulless 2nd gear. Purpose first, productivity second. (Not the other way around.) Rock on, Reader ✌️ P.S. Music has always been there to guide me into my purpose, at each of life's crossroads or pivots. I'm working on something right now, to explain this further, and am excited to share it with you soon! |
