Work Your Jam

The healing power of music

Hi Reader,

Have you ever wondered about the role music plays in our lives?

As the Coachella music festival winds down this weekend, I've thought about this question a little more.

If our favorite tunes are a Spotify stream away, why do we still want to watch those songs performed live?

After all, it's (technically) the same notes and chords...maybe with some new flourishes from the musicians.

What's in it for us to gather, in the tens of thousands, to hear a song one more time?

There is magic in the gathering.

We're all walking energy fields, emitting or absorbing vibrational frequencies across space and time.

And when we gather, those energy fields blend and flow into each other, whether we realize it or not.

Add the vibe of those live musicians on stage and, as they say in the American Midwest, we're "cooking with grease."

All those hours you spent listening to that song in your bedroom or office cubicle?

You're carrying that energy into the concert arena.

So are the tens of thousands of others beside you.

And when you shout a lyric back towards the stage, you're giving musicians the energy you've built up from those listening hours.

That's a whole lot of energy.

It has enough fuel to keep the band playing, and to keep the crowd roaring.

And on some nights, when the vibe hits just right in your bedroom, or in the arena, it has the power to heal a slice of your soul.

Remember that, the next time a song starts.

Rock on, Reader ✌️
